Moving as a Womble does
Want to know a little fact about Net Zero?
The National Building Specification (NBS) have revealed that approximately 70% of construction projects now have Net Zero targets. The research surveyed nearly 600 industry professionals to explore their practices related to sustainability. T
he encouraging results mark a significant milestone for our sector, reflecting a growing commitment to environmental responsibilities. Pretty decent, we say - but is this enough?
Sustainability isn’t something we wait for; it’s something we create. Our industry is highly innovative, and our people are driving the transition, supporting customers worldwide to move towards a more sustainable future. Whether through breakthrough technologies or bold ideas, we are facilitating meaningful change—for the climate, for our partners, and for future generations.
The world is continually taking steps towards a Net Zero future, with buildings playing a vital role in this transformation. Whether building from the ground up or upgrading existing homes, achieving Net Zero carbon involves balancing energy consumption with renewable energy generation while reducing emissions.
As a small company, our team at ERA has worked tirelessly from the beginning to lead this effort. We focus on understanding the key principles, technologies, and strategies that make Net Zero carbon buildings achievable: energy efficiency, low-carbon heating, and of course, renewable energy. Being a growing company, a significant effort has been made to reduce carbon emissions from buildings.
Henry and I are fully aware that our clients and the contractors we collaborate with prioritise this goal. We believe that the return on investment for fully implementing a Net Zero project is often not economically viable for most clients. However, the progress we are making as an industry suggests that we are close to turning this into reality.
The good news is that we believe the construction industry is slowly but surely becoming more sustainable despite various conflicting goals and challenges within the environment. More than ever, all of us in this sector reading this now feel a strong sense of responsibility for tackling the sustainability challenge. Every small effort really does make a difference. So, let's keep this going!
Until next time,
David and Henry
